Be careful what you order

A group of 13 of us visited for lunch last Sunday. We excepted the fact that they were very difficult about taking reservations for a group of that size. Limited our menu choice and required a deposit a month in advance. While the food was very good, even though very overpriced, we did have a service problem. We ordered bottles of a $23.00 wine. When the check arrived, we had been charged $46.00 per bottle. They insisted that we had ordered the more expensive variety and wouldn't budge. I sat next to the ordering party and he was very specific with his order. This is called bait and switch. We will never return again and advise others to stay away.

This was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had in our lives! We were a little hesitant at first, due to its industrial location, but once we entered the winery, we were blown away! The whole facility is absolutely breathtaking, from the floors, to the tasting room, to all small details. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we felt welcome. Every thing we ordered was delicious, if not perfect. The service, though a tad on the slow side, was very professional and friendly. This is definitely a great place for a special evening out. I'm sure it's fabulous for lunch, too.

We ate at Tierra Sur for our first time to celebrte an anniversary.Whoever stopped by the table wished us a happy anniversary.From the start of our experience from selecting the appetizers & entrees to the wine tasting(by the glass) was wonderful.The service ,recommendations & expertise of our server,Cheyenne, was amazing.The spencer steak was the best steak I have ever eaten,prepared perfectly rare.Highly recommend this very special restaurant.

The restaurant is located in an industrial park somewhere in Oxnard. I have visited a few times to give it the benefit of the doubt, but the service was horrendous, and EXTREMELY overpriced. The kitchen staff was constantly arguing with the servers, who were, if you could understand them, very (not) knowledgeable about the cuisine. Todd....take the time to train the kitchen staff to keep their mouths shut, especially since there is an open kitchen where you can hear every vile word that comes out....must be why you constanly have an ad in the paper for kitchen staff. Overall, too expensive for the cheap ingredients you use in your dishes, but you definitely have a flair with the customers. You are the best thing to come out of this overrated restaurant....you should look elsewhere where you are appreciated!


Good food and atmosphere

I enjoyed this on a Monday lunch, there was no other patrons at noon, but a few more dribbled in. Beautiful floor and decor. Lots of intriguing gifts in tasting room. Service was perfect. Sweet potato fries and dip - AWESOME. Soup of the day was leak and blue potato - AMAZING Watercress salad - not enuf watercress Note that it is closed on Saturdays.

Service leaves something to be desired, but this is by far the best restaurant in Oxnard! Agreed, lamb birria is fantastic, but many more delicious items on the menu!!! (Try the veal at dinner or the turkey burger for lunch)


High End Kosher Mediterranean Cuisine

Tierra Sur is located at the new Herzog Winery in Oxnard. Herzog is a kosher winery, and the food in the restaurant is also kosher. They describe the food as kosher Mediterranean, but I'd say it also has strong Calfornia cuisine leanings. Whatever the category, the food is incredibly good. The chef is a graduate of California Culinary Academy, and has worked in high end restaurants in the U.S. as well as in other countries. His training really shows in the quality and presentation of the food. I believe the menu changes seasonally, so I don't know if they have certain dishes that remain on the menu all year, but the fish dishes are all good, and the lamb birria is delicious. They also have a warm chocolate cake with caramel ice cream that's a great way to end a meal. Also, because it's a winery restaurant, there are plenty of wine by the glass selections that are reasonably priced. You can even try a few wines in the tasting room before your meal to help decide what to order. Service has been pleasant and overall good, although not quite up there at the level of the food. We've gone for both lunch and dinner, and it's been packed, so I'd recommend making reservations.
