great food; nice ambiance

Loved the special carrot soup in particular. Lovely place to eat a light or heavier meal, depending on circumstances.

Cold service, mediocre food, dirty bathroom

I always give a place a couple of visits to check consistency, and sense of hospitality.I had seen some some write-ups about Chef Laurel and had high hopes for a nice meal. Nice atmosphere,a little loud because of the hard floors, but overall nicely appointed.I have never been to Spain, but I do not think the people there would support this style of tapas. The gambas were dry and overcooked, the bread stale on the sandwich I had, and the cocktail was watered down. The salad was served on a warm plate and the Cabrales cheese was wayyy over-ripe. This place is not cheap to eat, and I could understand as the place was nearly empty. The crowning touch was the bugs in the restroom. I hate to see so much effort put into decor and then hiring teen-agers, fry cooks, and inexperienced managers to run the place down.

Great Tapas

Azu's is a must if you are visiting Ojai. The small space is elegant and feels spacious and the service lives up to the terrific menu. Tapas are traditionally small dishes eaten at a bar, but Azu has taken tapas a step further: instead of small dishes 'becoming a meal' these dishes are meant to be dinner from the start. As always, tapas are best if there are others to share with you, so you can "graze". Azu understands lamb, and how to pair a wine with it, and the cassoulet dishes can't be beat. The vegetables are flavorful and satisfying, and all the food is very authentic. The servers know and love the food, and their advice should be well considered if not heeded. The wine selection is one of my favorites in Ventura County - original and varied. Whether you want a light snack or a full dinner, casual or dressed up - Azu's is worth visiting again and again.
