Maybe an off day??
Reviewer: Steph from Ventura
Went for lunch and were the first customers of the day. My friend ordered pad thai and I had the golden bags. The pad thai had a really odd taste to it that was not good. We speculated that perhaps the meat in it was not fresh. The golden bags were so bland, as if there was no spice or seasoning at all in the mixture. The server was nice enough but very distracted with phone calls (orders maybe?) to check on us and we ended up paying and leaving without being able to resolve it. Honestly, the unbelievably loud grinding/drilling sound from the construction next door made it unbearable to be in the place any longer. Bummer.

Great authentic Thai food

I have eaten here twice with my girlfriend and the food and service were excellent both times. I would say prices are about average for a Thai restaurant. Their curry dishes are excellent; the special with scallops was especially good. The food seems to be authentic - be careful if you order something spicy; it can be very hot! The atmosphere is very pleasant also. Highly recommended.

Great Food, Great Service

We were in Ventura for a few days on vacation in JUL07 and walked the Main St restaurant row before picking Cholada Thai based on these reviews and the fact that it was full....usually a good sign vs the others were pretty empty. The food was excellent, generous portions & great friendly service. I had originally intended to sample many restaurants while in town however was so pleased with Cholada that we ate all our Ventura lunch & dinners there. I strongly recommend Cholada Thai.

Cholada has all the typical offerings of an American Thai restaurant but is always fresh and delicious. Unlike some other Thai joints in town, the food is full of color and flavor. Vegetables aren't overcooked. Sweet, spicy, salty, and sour ar in perfect harmony.

Great Food

I have been to Cholada about 4 times. Each time I have enjoyed different dishes. Their lunch meal is great. Good portion and tastefully cooked. Try their "fried tofu with peanut sauce" my favorite. It reminds me of home. I have had good experience there each time and looking forward to eat there again. Service is very pleasant. Yes, I must admit if you are in a rush or you are eating during lunch break, know it takes some time. A+++++++++

Delicious, Innovative Thai, Great Service

I'm surprised to see so few reviews of Cholada. The restaurant is always busy, even late in the evening. The food is excellent and we love the specials. Try some of the dishes with pumpkin, or any of the spicy fish dishes. These are unusual, and delicious. My teenage niece and her friends drive up from 1000 Oaks to eat here, and my best friend who has been to Thailand thinks it is the best Thai food she has had inside of the US. The kitchen is clean and the quality of the food is better than Tipps -- and the preparation more consistent. You can order the food Thai-hot, if you dare. To our taste buds Cholada is the best Thai food in Ventura followed by Tipps and The Lunch Box.

Delicious Thai Cuisine

Cholada is related to the Cholada in Malibu on PCH, and is much nicer than the Malibu location. It's in the space formerly occupied by East. Overall, I would rate the food as good as East, plus they've remodeled and it's much more pleasant and brighter inside now. They have some very reasonably priced lunch combos, and they will make anything vegetarian if you'd like. You can also order brown rice rather than jasmine rice, an attractive option to some. Personally, I don't feel that brown rice goes well with this type of food (yes, I know it's healthier), but my daughter doesn't eat white rice, so is thrilled with this option. The curries are all very tasty, and the spicy noodles are delicious. The only problem is the service, which is pleasant but inexperienced. I think the staff will definitely improve as they gain more experience, but at this point in time, you need to be patient and not in a hurry, or you won't enjoy your meal. The fact that the servers are eager to please and pleasant goes a long way, however, so I'd say it is definitely worth a try, and we'll definitely continue to go.
